Adult Education and English as a Second Language Programs

Utica Community Schools’ English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides instruction in English language communications skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to adult students whose native language is not English. Students also learn valuable workplace and life skills.

We offer day and evening classes ranging from zero level English speakers to advanced level.  All of the classes are staffed by certified teachers and incorporate hands on learning, cutting edge technology and 21st century curriculum while working at the students pace.  Our doors are open to resident and non-resident alike for students 18 years and older.

Utica Community Schools’ Adult Education program offers state approved GED and high school completion courses for students 18 years or older.  Classes are broken down into three levels using hands on instruction, computer based learning, and independent student work.  All of the classes are designed to accommodate traditional and non-traditional learners and are staffed by state certified teachers.  Adult Education offers strong curriculum created to engage students while earning their diploma or skills needed to pass the GED.

Students from all backgrounds ranging from diverse ethnic populations, displaced workers to retirees attend these programs.  Our ESL and Adult Education programs afford students the opportunity to achieve their goals and succeed in life.  Our instructors are highly dedicated, highly motivated and are focused on student success.

Classes are free, but a $35 non-refundable registration fee is required.    To register, students must:  be 18 years of age as of July 1, provide photo identification and proof of Michigan residency.   Both programs begin registering August 21, 2017.  Interested students can register for classes on the following dates:
